Welcome to Keira's Big Ideas!

Welcome to Keira's Big Ideas!

Hello! My name is Keira, and I am a third grader in Mrs. Yollis' class. My favorite hobbies are reading, writing, and singing. My favorite series of books is The Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket and The Nancy Drew Mystery Stories by Carolyn Keene. I started reading these books in third grade.  Most of my stories are realistic-fiction stories. Maybe I can write a story about a cow that will be a farmer but his crops are not growing well because he eats them all! I mostly sing in the car when music I like is on the radio. For example, if Coldplay's music was playing, I would sing along.

I have four dogs named: Mika, Cooper, Pokie, and Rory. In case you are wondering, all of my dogs are Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. In the photo above, you see Mika (on the right) and Cooper. Believe it or not, they have parented five litters! Mika's favorite hobbies are resting, fetching rocks on the beach, and walking. Cooper occasionally chews on his bone and likes to take walks often.

The picture above is of Pokie (on the left) and Rory, two of the daughters of Mika and Cooper. Pokie often rests, but she also enjoys walking and licking others. Rory's favorite activities are fetch, walking, resting, and licking humans.

What are your favorite hobbies?

If you have a pet, what kind of animal do you have as a pet?

If you have a dog, what breed is it?

(A breed is a type of dog.)

  1. Dear Keira,

I have a smart and playful dog as a pet. My dog’s name is Sunny. Sunny’s favorite toy was a stuffed porcupine. We gave it to her for her 11th birthday, but she devoured it on that day.

She enjoys a good nap. My parent’s bed is the place to go and see her nap. What are your dogs’ favorite places to nap?

    Nick

    1. @Nick,

      Thank you for the comment!

My dogs' favorite place to nap is their little dog bed in the living room. You can often see Pokie, Rory, and Mika napping there. Cooper is usually up and running around in circles barking for no reason. What are some activites your dog, Sunny, likes to play?

      Sincerely,
      Keira

  2. Hello Cooper!

Hi Cooper! My name is Rocky and I am Heather's dog. Sadly, she doesn't own another dog so that I can play with it. My favorite game is fetch the tennis ball, but since I ran away most of the times, they don't trust me anymore. Even so, they still let me play my favorite game once in a while! Do you like the game fetch?

Sorry, Cooper and Poppy. I haven't had any time to comment back to you. Well... Now that I have free time, I am just going to reply to you in this comment. By the way, if you don't mind, I want to say something about Poppy since you haven't mentioned him in your post. He is a lively, poppy like color with rich brown fur covering Poppy's body. I've met him before. I think that I am so lucky that I get to play with that little dog, even thought Poppy backs away when I approach him. I think that is because I am a giant to him. I am a big golden retriever while he is a little dog.

Oh! I'm sorry. I keep on sidetracked! Okay, where was I? Oh yeah! I was going to reply to Cooper and Poppy. Here is my sub-comment for Cooper, since he was first.

    Dear Cooper,

Awww... You should have gone over the pool! It feels refreshing and cool, even thought I hate water. I never go in water, even if my favorite tennis ball goes in there. You’re probably thinking that I don't know how to swim. Of course I know how to swim, silly. I just don't like the feel of soggy fur covering MY body. But you may like it, Cooper. Next time you see the vast puddle of water, swim in it!

Here, this is how I escaped my home:

When Heather let me out into the backyard, I acted innocent. After she trusted me and wasn't looking at me, I sneaked down into my slope and jumped over the fence. Unfortunately, I couldn't take you because you would be too small to jump over the fence. I will try to think of another way to escape for you.

No, no one noticed me when I escaped, but sometimes when I tried to escape, they spotted me.

Wow! Did you say an invisible cloak? I need one! Where do you get one? Can you make one for me? If so, comment back to me in dog language, and then translate it so that Heather can read it! BONES? I need one right NOW!

For some reason, the phone number doesn't work. D: Are you sure that you typed it correct?

    Woofly,
    Rocky

Now, Poppy, here is the comment for you:

    Dear Poppy,

Just saying, but make sure that Cooper sees this comment.

Most of the questions that you asked are in Cooper's comment. Make sure Cooper lets you see that one.

Really? You can squeeze through tiny holes? Can you squeeze through one by one inch square holes? If so, tell me because that is the size of my holes in my fence that I am trying to jump out of. When you squeeze through the hole, you can gnaw open the pad lock so that I can easily open the gate and walk out. How does that sound?

    Arf arf,
    Rocky

In Google Translate, this comment that Heather typed for me is too long to fit in the tiny box, so you have to make Keira translate it for you. :(

    Bark,
    Rocky

  3. @Rocky,

Hi! This is Cooper and Poppy. Cooper is Keira's dog but Poppy is Cooper's son that lives with Keira's aunt. Thank you for the response to our comments. Since this is two different dogs typing, we are both going to leave you a comment in a comment. Cooper is going to go first since he is older.

    Dear Rocky,

Thank you for the response! I think it would have been fun to go into the pool, but I guess I just didn't have the courage at the time. But if I ever go back to the house with the pool, I shall try your suggestion and walk on the pool. By the way, I do like fetch.

Yes, I did say invisible cloak. To get one, you must call the number :(818)- 555- DOGS. (no period in the phone number.) I have a whole bunch of Golden retriever sizes in stock, and I can get one to you in no time. Yes, there are bones included. Of course I typed my own phone number correctly! Maybe you dialed the phone number wrong or maybe you found a fake telephone and dialed the number combination onto the fake telephone. There are so many possibilities. Please try and call me again.

    Woofly,
    Cooper

    Dear Rocky,

Hi! This is Poppy. As I said in the comment on the post Runaway Rocky! , I am one of Cooper's sons. No, I can not squeeze through one by one inch square holes. I think that would be impossible for a dog to do unless the dog had a shrink-o-nator. I am currently working on something very similar to the shrink-o-nator, but this invention also has the regular setting and the grow-o-nator. Once I am done with this creation, I am sure we can escape together. Recently I have heard other dogs saying that my father, Cooper, is working on an invention that can make you fly (wings optional), dive underwater without a helmet, and the regular setting, walking on land. Maybe we can all get out together! How does that sound? Have you been working on a creation that can help us escape?

    Arf arf,
    Poppy

Was that too much for you to take in? Sorry if it was. We were just a little excited that you responded to us.

    Bark,
    Cooper and Poppy

  4. Dear Keira,

This is a neat blog! Blogging is a great way to connect with others in the same nation, or across the world!

Wow! You have 4 dogs? That's cool. I don't have a dog, but if I wanted to buy one, I'd buy a Labrador Retriever. I like their golden fur.

My favorite hobbies are blogging, reading, playing sports, and writing. Out of all my hobbies, my favorite hobby is playing sports. My favorite sport is football. This looks like a great start toward blogging for you! What is your favorite hobby out of all of them?

    Sincerely,
    Peter

    1. @Peter,

Thank you for the comment and the compliment! I do agree that blogging is a wonderful way to connect with others that live near you, or on the other side of the world!

My favorite hobby out of all my hobbies is reading. I like reading because it builds your vocabulary, helps you develop writing skills, and, depending on the book you're reading, reading is enjoyable. Right now I am reading The Nancy Drew Mystery Stories, which is about a young girl detective named Nancy Drew who goes on many daring adventures to solve perplexing mysteries. What is your favorite book or series? What book are you reading right now and what is it about?

      Sincerely,
      Keira

    2. Dear Keira,
I have heard of the Nancy Drew Series. They are similar to Hardy Boys. I like that series.

Right now I am reading a book about a Spanish man who tries to steal 3rd base in baseball, and gets badly injured.

      Warmly,
      Peter

My favorite hobby is collecting glass animals. I also like to collect funny utensils. I have a soup spoon that has a weird handle. Do you have any fish as a pet? If you do what is the name/names of your fish? I have a German shepherd as a pet. ('-')

      Nick

  5. Dear Keira,

My favorite hobbies are rollerblading, riding my bike, swinging in my backyard, and tumbling all around my bed doing gymnastics.

I have three pets. I have two cats at my mom's house. The boy's named Pumpkin because he is orange and the girl is named Crystal because she is a crystal gray. I have one dog at my dad's house. As you have heard of her, she is a Maltese with white shaved fur and her name is Gracie Marshmallow. She got shaved last week because she had a lot of knots.

I also like to write stories.I like fantasy stories with animals that usually have a humorous problem. I adore writing because I love the action of creating new adventures. When I grow up, I want to be an author. My second thought is to be an artist. What do you want to be when you grow up?

    Shayna

  6. Dear Keira,

Congratulations on your new blog! Your dogs are adorable! My favorite hobbies are reading, playing board games, and drawing. I don't have a pet dog, but I have a pet fish. My pet's name is Jewel. I want a dog, but my mom does not want a dog because my dad is always on trips so he would not be there to help take care of the dog.

Thank you! I do concur that my dogs are adorable.

What type of fish is it? Goldfish? I always get names for pets from their actions. How did you pick Jewel as your pet's name?

      Sincerely,
      Keira

  7. Dear Keira,

Nate has a dog named Marco. Marco is a havense. Here is Marco's schedule: 5:30 A.M.-Wake up and go to the bathroom, 5:35- go back to bed, 8:30- wake up again, 8:31- take nap, 1:30 P.M.- wake up 1:45- take nap, 3:00- wake up once again, 8:30- go to sleep. Once in a while, he plays a bit with Nate.

    1. @Nate and @lec,

Woof! Cooper speaking. To me, Marco's schedule seems like a pretty boring one. It only contains waking up, going to the bathroom, going back to bed, take a nap, and go to sleep. My schedule is much more exciting than that, though my schedule changes every day. Does your schedule ever change, Marco?

Frankie seems very nice. If he is active, than that is one similarity to me. I don't play Frisbee though, or hide and seek, but I do play fetch. What other activities do you play, Frankie?

      Arf woof,
      Cooper

  8. Dear Keira,

I want to tell you about my cousin George's dog, Frankie. He's a 2 year old Shih Tzu, and is a very, very active dog. His favorite game is hide and seek, I play this game with him every time and he always finds me. He is the best hide and seek player I know. The other thing he loves to do is swim with me in the pool and he adores to jump on a floatie in the pool and lounge while everyone is swimming in the water. Sometimes, I like to lounge with him on the floatie. I hope when I get my puppy, he is as fun and active as Frankie is and I also want my dog to be white and fluffy, so I can name him Socks!

    Cheers,
    @lec

    1. Dear Frankie,

Are you the same dog that is mentioned in the comment that Nate and @lec wrote? Oh! I forgot to introduce myself. I am Cooper, Keira's dog. Anyway, are you the same dog? Oh, I am just perplexed!

Your activites that you play sound fun, exciting, adventurous, and active. What is your favorite game? I am sure that a human can not tell what your favorite game is, only us dogs can tell what are favorite games and things are.

I love to lounge, except that I can be found resting on the cold hardwood floor, not on a floatie in the pool. Now that I think about it, my family doesn't even have a pool, they have a pond! I just love to sit and watch the fish swim and swim and swim. I only get a little time outside by the pond because I run away often , so I savor the minutes I get out there by watching the fish and going to do my business.

So, you are white and fluffy? AMAZING! As you can see, I am white with brown spots and have very sheek fur. The only time I get fluffed up is when a human fluffs me like a dog! Wait. I am a dog. Never mind.

I know why my owners named me Cooper. While they were deciding my name, I pooped right there on the carpet! Immediately, Keira blurted out "Cooper!". She thought of it because it rhymed with pooper. By the way, Pooper is my middle name. Here is my full name: Cooper the Pooper (last name.) I do not want to share my last name since it is the same as Keira's, and Keira is always talking about that you should never put your last name on the web, unless you are an adult and you choose to. Do you know how you got your name?

      Woof arf,
      Cooper

  9. Dear Keira,

I really like your blog! Hopefully I will have time to comment on your blog as much as I can.

I have a golden retriever puppy named Georgie. You can find out some more about him if you go to Mrs. Yollis' 365 Blog and in the search box type in Meet Georgie.

Some of my hobbies are dancing, playing softball and acting. I do hip hop on Tuesday, tap and ballet on Wednesday, and jazz on Saturday. I would normally play fall ball (which is softball in fall). This year I want to do summer ball. I have auditioned for just a few things, but I have only come in second. Do you do any of my hobbies?

    Sincerely,
    Clare

  10. Dear Keira,

Welcome to the wonderful world of blogging! You have done a great job with the template for your blog, the side bar looks terrific, and your Welcome post is fabulous. Well done!

You asked if I have any pets. As you know, I have a cute doggy named Buck. He is a Labrador retriever, and he loves to play with his toys. We throw the ball for him all the time, and he never seems to tire of it!

Last week, we took him to the Pacific Ocean, and he was filled with joy! Here is a link:

What activities do you do with your pets?
